Being a member of the Saber basketball program is a privilege. We take great pride in our basketball program and Central DeWitt High School and have very high expectations on and off the court. It is very important that everyone understands the expectations that go along with being a Saber Basketball Player. These expectations are key ingredients in the success and development of this team and the basketball program. They are not intended to catch you in the “wrong” but are tools used to create structure, dependability, responsibility, and commitment.
GENERAL CONDUCT
All school rules will be enforced. These rules can be found in the school handbook. If there is a good conduct violation, the coach has the right to extend that consequence as he sees fit.
All rules and guidelines will be followed in the student-parent handbook for athletic participation.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS
Correct practice gear must be worn at every practice, unless otherwise stated by the coach. Practice attire consists of shorts, reversible top, and basketball shoes. No head bands or wrist band are allowed during practice or games.
Be at practice on time. If you are going to be late or miss practice, it is your responsibility to let the coach know a head of time.
Give 100% at all times. You play the way you practice. The number one goal of Saber Basketball is to play harder than our opponent both physically and mentally.
Pay attention at all times. If you are not in the drill, you are expected to stand quietly on the side and pay attention to your teammates that are currently in. You can learn a lot by watching.
GAMES
All varsity players will be required to follow curfew guidelines on the night before the game. Curfews will be established at the beginning of the season.
A dress code will be established for all games.
If a player decides to wear knee or elbow pads, they will be white for the home games and black for the away games.
If you decide to wear a shirt under your jersey it must be the same color as the jersey. Purple for the away uniforms and white for the home uniforms.
All varsity players are expected to return from all away games on the bus, unless there is a special circumstance that is approved by the coach. We go to the game as a team, we play as a team, and we ride home as a team.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS
- Players will be a student athlete. Your education is your number one priority. Grades need to be maintained at their highest level, classes must be attended, and behavior must be appropriate at all times.
- Players will be on time to all practices and games.
- Players are expected to be at all practices/games. If you are not at practice and you have not contacted the coach prior to that missed practice, that absence will be an unexcused absence. The first unexcused missed practice will result in you sitting out 1 game. The second unexcused missed practice will result in you missing 2 games. If you have 3 unexcused missed practices, you will not play the rest of the year.
- Players, coaches, and anyone associated with Saber Basketball will conduct themselves in an appropriate manner at all times. Any behavior on or off the court that is detrimental to the good of this basketball team, to Central DeWitt High School, or to yourself will be handled as the coach sees fit. This includes any inappropriate use of social media.
- We will represent ourselves and the team with sportsmanship and class on the basketball court. Technical fouls and inappropriate responses to the ref will not be tolerated.
- Players will communicate with their coaches. You will have several opportunities to talk independently with your coach about your progress as a basketball player, a student, and a person. If you have a concern or a question, talk to your coach.
- We will all be positive. Basketball is a TEAM sport. There is a role for each one of you. That role, no matter what it is, is important to the success of the team. Find a role, accept it, strive to improve, and do the best that you can do in that role.
- TEAM! Basketball is the ultimate team sport, and success only comes when we play and represent ourselves as a team. This means that no one player will single himself out or draw attention to him by what they do or what they wear.
